The surge or the over Voltage Phenomena in Transformers occur only for a few micro seconds with respect to an over voltage at same frequency. This time when current passes through the whole winding turns, the transformer behavior changes radically. The drastic changes are of three nature.

  •  Increase the terminal voltage during the charging of transformer capacitance
  •  Initial voltage distributions along the transformer, winding
  •  Intermediate transients & final voltage distribution along the transformer winding

Now by using some special devices in the transformer, the initial and the final voltage distribution can be made to coincide, then the initial and the final voltage gradients and oscillations would vanish. It is called capacitive protection. Use of interleaved coils also reduces the voltage concentration and Oscillations in transformer. Specially designed to withstand. It can also maintain “Earth to Neutral” voltage as minimum as possible

UNINTERRUPTED ELECTRONIC POWER SUPPLY EQUIPMENT (UEPSE)  :

UEPSE is the most popular and useful Stand-by Power Source in different Sectors (e.g. I.T., Banking and Para-Banking, Hospital & Laboratories etc.), now a days, where continuous Quality Power Source is required. In most of the places, presently, UEPSE are used in place of UPS.

Major advantages of UEPSE over Conventional type ON-Line UPS as under  :

1.         Output of UEPSE is totally Electrically Isolated from its Input side. So, Earth to Neutral voltage difference can be made as minimum as possible and Input side’s all types of noises are isolated automatically.

2.         Power Quality is clean (independent of OUTPUT Load value and type). General UPS (ON-Line or Line Interactive) Output Voltage (AC) supply is not clean (due to High Speed Switching, 40-60 KHz approx,

in Invertor Block, creates a lot of EMI as well as voltage harmonics). Proper design of Low pass filter at Output along with proper magnetic shielding may eliminate these effects for a Well Defined Load (i.e. Fixed Load). But when Multi Loads are connected to the Output of the UPS and the Load numbers of “UPS Output-Load” varies time to time – Then the quality of the “Power Output” of UPS is not at all clean but distorted

3.        a) Back-up Time is MORE with same Battery Capacity for Equivalent Load (than UPS). b) Battery Life is Higher.

4. Temperature raise over ambient temperature is lesser. Automatically Equipment Life is Higher. 

5. Battery Charging is possible at a very low Input Voltage (even at 120V., AC-if required) than UPS.

6. Control Card is fully Programmable as and when required, on site (Factory Mode).

That is why, advance concept based “UEPSE” is always a dependable choice as a STAND-BY Power Source for Micro-processor/Micro-controller Based Equipments (e.g. for communication, Medical, Scientific Laboratory etc.), over UPS, now a days, where Input Power-Lime Voltage Supply is not within the Tolerable Limit (180V – 260V., AC).
